Where the herds gather
The northern section along the river is the classic Tarangire: baobabs, elephant herds at the water, lion on the kopjes and tree climbing pythons. It is the busiest part of the park, and still quiet compared to the Serengeti.

South of the river, the Silale swamps hold water long into the dry season, drawing elephant and buffalo, with very few vehicles and excellent walking on the private land around the park. We use mobile and concession camps here, chosen for your dates.

Good to Know
Yes, particularly from June to October, when thousands of elephant, buffalo and zebra gather along the Tarangire River. The baobab landscape is unlike anywhere else on the northern circuit, and there are far fewer vehicles than in the Serengeti.
June to October, the dry season, when the herds concentrate on the river. The green months from November to May are quiet and superb for birding, though the game disperses.
