Wilderness Mara: Now Open in the Mara Triangle

Wilderness Mara is a twelve suite luxury camp in the Mara Triangle, the quiet western side of Kenya's Masai Mara. It opened in 2026, on one of the great sites in the whole reserve.

The camp stands at the foot of the dramatic Oloololo Escarpment, on the ground once held by the legendary Little Governors' Camp, now rebuilt from scratch by Wilderness, the conservation led group behind some of Africa's finest camps. A new camp on a legendary site

Few names in the Mara carry the weight of Little Governors'. For more than fifty years it welcomed travellers to this corner of the reserve. Wilderness has now rebuilt it entirely, keeping the spirit of the place while bringing it firmly into the present.

The result is a calm, low impact camp that sits gently in the landscape, with a design that draws on the Mara itself, natural textures and locally crafted furnishings throughout.

The Mara Triangle, the Mara's quiet side

The Mara Triangle is the western third of the Masai Mara, managed by the Mara Conservancy. It is known for fewer vehicles, strict anti poaching and some of the richest game in Kenya, which is why it remains one of the reserve's best kept secrets.

Wilderness Mara is set along a seasonal marsh, with access to both sides of the Mara River. That position gives wonderfully varied game viewing, from open plains to riverine forest, with the escarpment always on the horizon.

The suites, and life at camp

Wilderness Mara has twelve tented suites, including one family unit, set quietly along the marsh. Each suite comes with a freestanding bath, an outdoor shower and an elevated private deck, with sweeping views and frequent visits from passing wildlife.

Between drives there is a spa, a gym, and an in camp photographic studio to relive the day's sightings. The camp's Manyatta Dinner is a warm celebration of Maasai culture, community and storytelling.

The wildlife

The Triangle delivers all year. Resident lion prides, large elephant herds and even critically endangered eastern black rhino move across these plains.

From roughly July to October, the Great Migration brings well over a million wildebeest and zebra through the greater Mara, with the dramatic river crossings that draw travellers from around the world.

Conservation, at the heart of it

The Mara Triangle is a conservation success story. Under the Mara Conservancy, tourism is kept low impact, poaching is held back, and the fees your stay generates go straight back into protecting the land and supporting the surrounding communities.

When to go

The Mara Triangle rewards a visit all year, with strong resident game and few vehicles. For the Great Migration and the river crossings, aim for July to October, the busiest and most dramatic months.
