Prices run from USD 11,600 to USD 47,900 per person sharing depending on the journey and the season. Every journey includes the connecting flights, the border formalities and all park fees, and eight nights is the shortest we recommend for two countries.
Each of these puts two very different landscapes within a few hours of each other, and the contrast is the point.
There is a moment on every one of these journeys where the landscape stops making sense as one place. You spend four days on your knees in a cloudforest at two and a half thousand metres, and then you are standing on an escarpment above open grass with nothing between you and the horizon. Or you leave a river that drops a hundred metres into a gorge and land, four hours later, somewhere so quiet you can hear the wind move.
That contrast is the whole reason to cross a border. Not to collect countries, but because two things seen close together mean more than either seen alone.
The oldest pairing is Kenya and Tanzania, and it remains the most travelled for good reason. The Maasai Mara and the Serengeti are one ecosystem divided by a line the wildebeest ignore entirely. We cross it at Migori and Tarime on a single voucher, with customs handled on both sides, and it costs a morning rather than a day.
Pair gorillas with plains game and you get something stranger. Rwanda and the Maasai Mara puts two treks from Wilderness Bisate against four nights at Mara Plains. Uganda and the Maasai Mara does the same for considerably less, because a Ugandan permit costs USD 800 where Rwanda's costs USD 1,500.
Victoria Falls and the Maasai Mara is the pairing most people assume is impossible. It is not. Royal Livingstone is the only hotel with the falls inside its own grounds, and Nairobi is a direct flight away.
And when a journey should end horizontal, it ends on the Indian Ocean. Kenya, Tanzania and Zanzibar finishes on Mnemba, a coral island of twelve bandas inside its own marine reserve, reached by boat and walked around in twenty minutes.

More easily than most people expect. The Maasai Mara and the Serengeti are one ecosystem either side of a border. Rwanda's gorilla forest is two hours from Nairobi. Kenya Airways fly Victoria Falls to Nairobi direct. Every journey here is built around a connection that already works.
Between Kenya and Tanzania we book the whole leg as a single through fare voucher, so one ticket covers the flight to Migori, the road transfer to Tarime with both customs stops, and the flight on into the Serengeti. It costs a morning. Rwanda, Uganda and Zambia connect to Nairobi on scheduled flights, and our team meets you on both sides wherever a land border is involved.
Usually, and most are issued online in advance. The East Africa Tourist Visa covers Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda on one document, which is worth knowing if your journey takes in more than one of them. Less than people assume. The extra is usually one flight and one set of park fees, not a second safari. On several of these journeys the connecting flight is included in the camp rate, so it costs nothing at all.
Eight is the minimum for two countries and ten is more comfortable. Anything shorter and one half gets two nights, which is a single full day, and that is rarely worth the flight. Three countries needs twelve or more.
