The mountain, and the Mara

The Private Amboseli and Maasai Mara Family Safari is a nine day, eight night luxury family safari in Kenya, from USD 48,500 per family of four. It pairs the great elephant herds of Amboseli under Mount Kilimanjaro, from a private two bedroom suite at Kitirua Plains, with four nights in an interconnecting suite at Angama Mara on the rim of the Great Rift Valley. The price covers two adults and two children under sixteen, and is fully inclusive of domestic flights, private transfers, all game drives with a private guide and Land Cruiser, and all park and conservancy fees.

A luxury family safari in Kenya that shows children the true range of the country. The great elephant herds of Amboseli under Mount Kilimanjaro, then the endless plains of the Mara from the rim of the Great Rift Valley.

You begin in Karen, at Hemingways Nairobi, with the elephant orphanage, the Giraffe Centre and a coffee farm in the Limuru hills. Then you fly south to Amboseli.

At Kitirua Plains, your family has a private two bedroom suite with its own vehicle, its own guide and its own chef, in a private conservancy where the elephants cross the plains against Africa's highest peak.

From Amboseli you fly to the Mara and to Angama, built directly on the rim of the Oloololo Escarpment. Your interconnecting suite has floor to ceiling views across the whole reserve below, one side for the parents and one for the children.

Four nights of the Mara Triangle in your own Land Cruiser, with a private guide, walking safaris along the escarpment, and childminding from 6pm to 10pm so dinner can be yours.

Why we love this journey — Two of Kenya's greatest views in one trip. Elephants at eye level beneath Kilimanjaro, then the whole Mara laid out below your suite on the edge of the Rift Valley. Your own vehicle and guide throughout, so nothing is shared and the days bend to your children rather than a fixed timetable.

One price, for the whole family.

How much is the Private Amboseli and Maasai Mara Family Safari?

From USD 48,500 per family of four in the Low Season, USD 53,450 in the Green Season, and USD 79,100 in the Peak Season, from July to September and over the festive period. The price is for two adults and two children under sixteen, and includes all domestic flights, private transfers and both private suites.

Why go to Amboseli with children?

Amboseli offers some of the easiest and most dramatic wildlife viewing in Kenya. Big herds of elephant cross open plains beneath Mount Kilimanjaro, so children see giants up close against Africa's highest peak. At Kitirua Plains your family has a private two bedroom suite with its own vehicle, guide and chef.

What makes Angama Mara special for families?

Angama Mara sits on the rim of the Oloololo Escarpment, with floor to ceiling views across the whole Masai Mara below. Your family stays in an interconnecting suite, one side for the parents and one for the children, with a private guide and vehicle in the Mara Triangle and childminding from 6pm to 10pm.

Can you combine Amboseli and the Masai Mara on one family safari?

Yes, and it is one of the best pairings in Kenya for a family. Amboseli gives you big elephant herds under Mount Kilimanjaro, and the Masai Mara gives you the big cats and, in season, the Great Migration. A short flight links the two, so your family sees two of Kenya's greatest landscapes without a long road transfer.

What is the best time for this family safari?

July to September is the Peak Season at USD 79,100 per family, with the Great Migration in the Mara and clear Kilimanjaro views at Amboseli. The Green Season in January, February, June and October is USD 53,450 per family. The Low Season in March to May and November to mid December is the value window at USD 48,500 per family.
