Luxury Maasai Mara Safaris

July to October for the Great Migration and the Mara River crossings, with August and September the peak. January and February are hot, dry and quiet, with superb big cat viewing, and March to May is the green season with the lowest rates of the year.

Our private Maasai Mara safaris start from USD 8,500 per person. Small conservancy camps cost about USD 1,200 to 1,800 per person per night with fees, drives and house drinks included, and reserve fees in 2026 are USD 100 per adult per day from January to June and USD 200 from July to December.

For most guests, a conservancy. Vehicles are capped, and off road driving, night drives and walking are allowed, none of which the reserve permits. For the river crossings from July to October, spend some nights in the Mara Triangle or the northern reserve, or take a crossing day from a conservancy.

The western third of the national reserve, between the Mara River and the Oloololo Escarpment, run separately by the Mara Conservancy. It has the same rules as the rest of the reserve, better maintained roads, far fewer vehicles and the northern river crossing points.

Three nights at the very least, and four or five in the Migration season, because crossings are never guaranteed and the herds can wait for days. Splitting a week between a conservancy and the Mara Triangle gives the fullest picture.

No. The herds gather, hesitate and sometimes turn back. Staying close to the crossing points, with enough nights and a private vehicle so you can wait, gives you the best odds.

For most guests, yes. A small camp on a private conservancy means far fewer vehicles, off road driving to follow a hunt, night drives, walking and a guide who stays with you, and the conservancy fee goes to the Maasai families who own the land. It is the difference between watching the Mara and having it to yourselves.

A few nights at Mahali Mzuri or Mara Plains in Olare Motorogi for privacy and game, then Angama Mara above the Mara Triangle for the view and the river crossings, with a private balloon at dawn and a private breakfast in the bush. Lorien Mara or Wild Hill suit couples who want a whole house to themselves.

Yes. We are based in Karen, Nairobi, and arrange private Maasai Mara safaris that start and end in the city, flying to the Mara in 45 minutes from Wilson Airport, with your own guide and vehicle if you wish. Three or four nights work beautifully.

By light aircraft from Wilson Airport in Nairobi, about 45 minutes to the airstrip nearest your camp, or by road in about five to six hours. Helicopter transfers also run to and from Laikipia and Amboseli.
