The first journey of a marriage, and the one you will describe for the rest of it
A wedding takes a year of decisions. By the time it is over, most couples have nothing left for planning anything at all, which is exactly when the honeymoon usually gets booked badly.
This is the part we take off you completely. You tell us what the two of you actually want out of a fortnight, and we build it, book it, and then stay behind it while you travel.
Most of our honeymoons run bush then beach. A week of early mornings and long game drives, then a week of doing nothing at all beside the Indian Ocean. That order matters, and it is the way round we recommend for a reason.
We are asked for the quiet camps rather than the famous ones, for private vehicles rather than shared, and for a dinner nobody else is invited to. We are very good at all three.
Begin a Conversation →Ongeri Expeditions has designed honeymoon safaris across East Africa and the Indian Ocean since 2019. The figures below are what we quote most often.
Six reasons that matter more on a honeymoon than they do on any other trip.
We know which lodges are genuinely romantic and which simply photograph well. We know which rooms have the view and which sit beside the generator. On a honeymoon that is the whole difference.
Sharing a game drive with six strangers is fine on a first safari. It is not what you want on your honeymoon. A private vehicle and guide is our default rather than an upgrade we hope you will buy.
Travelling within a year of your wedding usually unlocks a reduction for one of you, along with room upgrades, private dining and spa credit. We ask for all of it on your behalf, at every property.
A table laid in the bush, a bath drawn with the tent open to the plains, a bottle waiting after a long flight. Arranged in advance with the camp, and never announced across a dining room.
You speak to the same advisor throughout. Nobody hands you over to an operations team, and nobody makes you explain your trip twice.
A missed connection or a delayed light aircraft is our problem to solve, not yours. Somebody on our team is reachable at every hour you are travelling.
Not every honeymoon wants all of these. We ask first, then we do the ones that suit you.
A table set on a riverbank, a rock, an airstrip or the plains, with your guide and a chef and nobody else within a mile of it. The most requested thing we do, and the one guests talk about longest.
Safari first while you still have the energy for five o'clock starts, ocean second when you want none at all. We handle the flight between the two so there is no long transfer in the middle.
A quiet professional who joins one game drive and disappears. Far better than asking your guide to hold a phone, and the only pictures from the trip you will actually print.
If you are proposing rather than celebrating, tell us and nobody else will know. We have arranged a good number of these and not one has been spoiled by a well meaning member of staff.
No forms to wrestle with and no template itinerary landing in your inbox an hour later. We talk first, then we design.
Not just dates and budget. Whether you like early mornings, whether one of you burns, whether you want people around or nobody at all. That shapes the camps far more than the price does.
You will get a small number of well argued options rather than a catalogue. Each one explains why that camp, at that time of year, for you specifically.
Once you choose, we hold the rooms, book the flights, claim the honeymoon rates and brief every camp on what you are celebrating. Then we get out of your way.
June to October is the classic dry season, with the Great Migration in the Maasai Mara from roughly July to October. January and February are excellent too, hot and clear with superb light. The green season from March to May is quieter and considerably better value, with a real chance of rain and some of the most beautiful landscapes of the year.
Ten to fourteen nights is the sweet spot. Around seven nights of safari across two camps, then five to seven on the coast or the islands. Anything shorter than four nights on safari means you spend most of it in transit rather than in the bush.
Most of our partner camps offer a honeymoon reduction, a room upgrade or both, usually to couples travelling within twelve months of the wedding on production of a marriage certificate. We request it at every property rather than waiting to be offered it.
Yes, and it is what most couples ask for. Zanzibar is the easiest pairing from Kenya and Tanzania and the shortest hop. The Seychelles and Mauritius take longer to reach but reward it. We plan the flights so the beach follows the bush rather than the other way round.
At this level, yes. Suites with proper beds, hot water, laundry, wine that has been kept properly and food that would hold its own in a city. The only real hardship is the alarm clock, and the reason for that becomes obvious on the first morning.
Most of the honeymoons we design fall between USD 9,000 and USD 25,000 per couple for around a fortnight, depending on the camps, the season and how much flying is involved. We quote the whole journey together rather than piece by piece, so you can see exactly what changes when you move a camp or a date.
Yes, and often. Tell us before you travel and we will arrange the moment quietly, brief only the people who need to know, and make sure nobody congratulates you a day early.
One conversation is usually enough for us to see the shape of it. No forms to fight with, and no template itinerary in your inbox an hour later.
