In short
- The best luxury honeymoon lodge in Meru National Park is Elsa's Kopje, on a hilltop above George Adamson's original campsite.
- Choose Elsa's Kopje for the Born Free story, a bathtub with a view and a hilltop pool.
- Meru has very few lodges, so it feels private. It pairs well with Samburu and Laikipia.
Meru does not shout. It is green, wild and almost empty of crowds.
This is the park of Born Free, where George and Joy Adamson raised Elsa the lioness. Few Kenya honeymooners ever see it.
We are a Kenyan owned luxury safari company in Karen, Nairobi. Meru has very few luxury stays. Elsa's Kopje is the one we book for honeymooners.

Elsa's Kopje: the best Born Free honeymoon lodge in Meru
Elsa's Kopje stands on Mughwango Hill, above George Adamson's original campsite in Meru National Park. The views run out across the plains.
The style is colonial, built around the rocks and trees. Interiors have thatched ceilings, whitewashed walls and exposed wooden beams.
Accommodation includes cottages, suites, a family house and a private house. The suites are the honeymoon choice. Each has a private terrace and a romantic bathtub, indoors or outdoors. The honeymoon suite has three levels and plenty of private space.
There is a swimming pool with views over the plains, and an open fronted spa for massages. The private house has its own infinity pool.
Days include game drives, a visit to the rhino enclosure with white and black rhinos, a guided walk to the top of the kopje, and fishing, which is included. Elsa's grave can be visited on request, about an hour's drive away.
It takes a 45 minute flight from Nairobi, then a 40 minute road transfer.
