Angama Mara: the best honeymoon safari lodge for the Great Migration
Angama Mara sits on the Oloololo Escarpment, 1,000 feet above the Mara Triangle. Each of the 30 tented suites has floor to ceiling glass, so the plains are the first thing you see each morning.
This is the camp for a luxury Great Migration honeymoon safari in the Maasai Mara. The northern crossing points are close, and a sunrise balloon flight is an easy way to mark the occasion.
One honest note. Angama drives in the national reserve, so there is no off road driving and no night drives. If you want those, read on.

How to choose your honeymoon camp in the Maasai Mara
Start with what matters most to the two of you.
- The view and the Migration: Angama Mara.
- Privacy and few vehicles: Mara Nyika or Mara Plains Camp.
- Good food, a pool and off road game viewing: Mahali Mzuri.
- Old Kenya romance: &Beyond Bateleur Camp or Cottar's 1920s Safari Camp.
Want a private plunge pool in every suite, or a star bed? Look beyond the Mara to Ol Donyo Lodge in the Chyulu Hills, or to Sasaab and Saruni in Samburu.
If you are unsure about the land, read Maasai Mara reserve, Triangle or conservancy and the Mara conservancies compared.
The best time for a honeymoon in the Maasai Mara
July to October is the Great Migration, and the busiest and most expensive time. January to March is warm, dry and quieter. The rains are heaviest in April and May, when rates drop and the plains turn green.
Couples who prefer quiet should choose a conservancy camp in the shoulder months. Couples who want the river crossings should book 9 to 12 months ahead.
How many nights do you need for a Maasai Mara honeymoon
Plan 4 to 6 nights for 2 camps in the Maasai Mara. Add 3 nights in Samburu for a different landscape and different wildlife.
Many couples finish at the coast or on an island. The Mara combines well with Zanzibar, Mauritius and the Seychelles for a safari and beach honeymoon. Our honeymoon safaris page shows how it works.
What a Maasai Mara honeymoon costs
The price depends on the camp, the season and the number of nights. Our 5 Day Mahali Mzuri safari starts from USD 9,750 per person sharing. Our 9 Day Luxury Kenya Safari, with Angama Mara, Amboseli and Laikipia, starts from USD 16,450 per person sharing.
Reserve camps add park fees. In 2026 they are USD 100 per adult per day from January to June and USD 200 from July to December. Conservancy camps often include their fee.
